Robotic

Meta's History with robot welding goes back even before the company was formed to a research project at Oxford University. The aim of the project was to develop the world's first combined guidance and inspection system for robotic welding for automotive applications. Since then, Meta has installed hundreds of systems for automotive customers and for other robot welding jobs.

Robot WeldingThe need for laser vision systems for robot welding arises from the nature of the production process. To achieve a reliable high quality weld, the welding electrode or beam must be moved precisely along the weld joint while the weld process parameters are controlled accordingly.

Unfortunately, it is very difficult and expensive to make sure the part itself is unlikely to be in the same place with the same fit up. This results in positioning and process errors which themselves result in poor quality and unreliable welds leading to defects, rework and increased costs.
